Advocacy, Lobbying & Legal Intervention : MSSIA officers, volunteers, and consultants lobby policy-makers, state and federal agencies, and elected officials to educate them on the policy changes and incentives required to grow solar.
In 2011 & 2012, in NJ, MSSIA lobbied for continuation of EDC SREC financing programs in light of lack of long term SREC contracts in SREC marketplace; MSSIA had numerous meetings with assemblymen and senators to stress importance of bill s1925 in avoiding solar industry meltdown in 2012 and to convince them to provide 4YRS of acceleration, not 3 YRS;
Met with union leaders to educate them to the fact that there was only limited space in the solar RPS for Grid Supply Projects
Met with Rate Counsel to present analysis of solar oversupply and stress the need for 4 Yrs of solar RPS acceleration
Met with NJ Governor’s Chief of Staff and others to communicate necessity of bill to avoid thousands of solar industry job losses
All of this effort led to subsequent passage of the “solar resurrection bill” s1925 in which MSSIA played an instrumental role. MSSIA continues to work on building support to increase the New Jersey solar RPS to a much higher level.
